Clutier's Postmaster Dead

Clutier is mourning this week. James Hach, postmaster, hardware dealer, and undertaker, died Sunday night after an illness of only three days. He was taken very ill of fever Thursday afternoon and no medical skill seemed to give any relief. He was a member of one of the prominent families of Oneida township, where he was born in 1887. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hach, are living on the home farm northeast of Clutier. Deceased was married eight years ago to Freda Dose, who came from Hamburg, Germany, eleven years ago. The couple located in Clutier and have lived there since. They are parents of three children. Besides the wife, children and parents, three brothers and two sisters survive, namely: Charles, in Clutier; Will and Ed., at home; Mrs. Mary Henke, Clutier; Mrs. Mike Minehart, Traer. Deceased was one of the leading and highly respected businessmen of Clutier. He has been postmaster for eight years, was the undertaker and furniture dealer of the town and a mender of the Clutier Hardware company. His brother Charles and brother-in-law, Martin Henke, were partners in the hardware business. The funeral was held in the big hall in Clutier Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Speaker Hayek, of Cedar Rapids. There was a very large attendance of mourning friends. Clutier has suffered a distinct loss in the passing of this popular and prominent citizen. [Traer Star-Clipper; 11 February 1921]
