CARPENTER WINSLOW GRAHAM

Carpenter Winslow Graham, familiarly known to a wide circle of friends as "Carp.," died Sunday night, following the recetion of a stroke of paralysis. He received the first stroke several years ago, was confined to his home and part of the time to his bed for several months thereafter, but later regained sufficient health and strength to permit of his occasionally walking about the city and meeting his friends. The last stroke came four days before his death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church by the pastor, Dr. DeWitt Clinton. Music was furnished by Mrs. F.E. Fowler and Mrs. C.J. Wonser with Mrs. Carl Brice at the piano. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Graham was born at Clearfield, Pa., Nov. 30, 1844, and died at the age of eighty-two years and twenty-six days.

His parents, John and Amelia Graham came at an early date to Scott county, Iowa, and thence to Poweshiek county, settling on a farm near Fairview. He there grew to manhood and was married to Samantha Shaw Dec. 11, 1869, at Brooklyn, and they made their home on a farm near Fairview in Tama county, living there about thirty years, and then moving to Tama where his wife died Dec. 11, 1908.

Mr. Graham was married a second time to Mrs. Rebecca I. Ray March 20, 1912, at Nevada, Iowa. Their home has since been in Tama until the death of Mr. Graham.

Mr. Graham is survived by four children, the fruits of his first marriage, as follows: Mrs. William Fromkneckt, Sioux City; Arthur Graham, Chelsea; Elmer Graham, near Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Rose Wright, Denver, Colo. Two of the children are dead.

Mr. Graham is also survived by his wife; a brother, Alexander Graham, in Canada; and three sisters: Wilhelmina Merkle, Wausau, Wis.; Mrs. Ella Dooley, Nebraska; and Mrs. Martha Mitchell, Manning.

Mr. Graham became a member of the Christian church during his early married life at Fairview and since his residence in Tama had affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church.
