Death Claims Eli Newton Mohler

Died at His Home West of Toledo Early Saturday Morning

Resided in Tama County Many Years - Funeral Services Held Monday Afternoon at Rose Hill Church - Burial in Cemetery Nearby

E.N. Mohler, who resided west of Toledo, died at his home Saturday morning following an illness which had extended over a period of two years and which had started with an infection of the right foot. He had lived in Tama county nearly all of his life. Funeral services were held at the Rose Hill church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery. Rev. G.G. Booton officiated and was assisted by Rev. D.D. Soule. H.P. Giger sang two solos, "Saved by Grace" and "Shall We Meet Bye and Bye?" Mrs. Giger played the accompaniment. Casket bearers were Harold Otterman, Russell Harris, Lynn Mohler, Earl Smith, Herbert Hall and Riley Kepler. The following life sketch was read at the funeral services: Eli N., son of Eli and Margaret Giger Mohler, was born in Perry county, Ohio, May 22, 1852. His parents moved to Iowa when he was about six months old, and with the exception of about two years spent in Dakota, and four years at New Hampton, Iowa, the most of his life was spent near Toledo. He was married to Bertha Head March 18, 1886. To this union were born three sons, namely, Roscoe Herbert, Russell Riley, and Raymond E. Mr. Mohler was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church about fifty years ago. He always loved to sing, and thruout his long illness he would sing or hum his favorite hymns.

Had Leg Amputated

About two years ago Mr. Mohler began to suffer from an infection of the right foot, which disease finally led to the amputation of the lower limb. Since then his suffering has been intense, but he bore it with patience, always hoping to get well. But God released him early Saturday morning, January 29, 1927, his death being so peaceful and quiet that the family was hardly aware of it until he was gone. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, who has so tenderly cared for him during his entire illness, his three sons, six brothers and two sisters, namely, Levi, Sam and Alpha Mohler of Toledo, Iowa; Dan, of New Hampton, Iowa; Noah, of Laurens, Iowa; John, of Hubbard, Iowa; Mary D. Masten, of Amo, Indiana, and Martha Harris, of Toledo, Iowa. All were present at the funeral except Noah, who could not come on account of sickness.
