Mohler Obituary

Eli Mohler was born in Perry county, Ohio, Dec. 21, 1826 and died at his home in Tama county, Iowa, May 16, 1911, thus being aged 84 years, 4 months and 25 days. He grew up and was married in Ohio on Dec. 9, 1849, to Miss Margaret Giger, who preceded him to the future world, dying on July 27, 1898. To Mr. and Mrs. Mohler were born thirteen children, of who nine are living, as follows: Levi, E.N., Samuel, Alpha M., and Mrs. Martha Harris, all of this county; Daniel W., of New Hampton; John W., of Hubbard; Noah C., of Spirit Lake, and Mary Masten, of Amo, Indiana. These children, with the exception of Mrs. Masten, were all present, six of the sons acting as pallbearers. Mr. Mohler came to Tama county in 1852 and has been a resident of this county ever since. While not connected with any church here, he was baptized as a child in the Lutheran church. He braved the privations of a pioneer life and lived to a ripe old age. The funeral services were held at the Rose Hill church, north of town, on Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C.L. Nye, pastor of the Toledo M.E. church. Musical selections were furnished by the Misses Maysie Green, Mollie Pierce, Messers. H.P. Giger and B.F. Green, with Mrs. H.P. Giger at the organ. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
