Had Lived in This Community More Than Sixty-Five Years -- Funeral Services Held at Methodist Church Sunday -- Five Children Survive

Levi Mohler, a resident of this community for more than sixty-five years, died suddenly last Wednesday evening about 8 o'clock. He was on his way home from town, and had an attack of heart disease. His body was found lying on the sidewalk near the Henderson home. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church. They were in charge of Dr. R.F. Hurlburt, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Donald Artman, pastor of the Toledo Methodist circuit, and Will A. Pye. A quartet, composed of Mrs. Will A. Pye, Mrs. M.R. Thompson, H.P. Giger and R.W. Adair, accompanied by Mrs. Giger on the organ, sang two sacred selections, "It Pays to Serve Jesus" and "In the Sweet By and By." Mr. Giger sang a solo, "Rock of Ages." Pall bearers were the three sons, Lloyd, Loren and Lynn, and three brothers, Dan, Alpha and John. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Relatives here from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mohler, of New Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. John Earhart, Foxboro, Wisconsin; John Mohler, Hubbard; Lloyd Mohler, Denver, Colorado; Loren Mohler, Rochester, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Mohler and children, Hudson; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smoldt and children, Melbourne, and Mrs. Mary D. Masten, Amo, Indiana.

Levi Mohler was born in Sandusky county, Ohio, October 5, 1850, and died in Toledo December 19, 1928, in the 79th year of his age, he having passed his seventy-eighth birthday upon the fifth day of last October. He was the son of Eli and Margaret Giger Mohler, and came to Iowa with his parents when he was two years of age, and after residing in Linn county for a short time, came with his father and mother to Tama county, and this county has since been his home. Mr. Mohler was married in Tama county December 24, 1873, to Mary Elizabeth Amidon. There were born to this union the following children: Monte Lee, who died in infancy; Lulu May Earhart, of Foxboro, Wisconsin; Edward Lynn, of Hudson; Lois Maud Smoldt, of Melbourne; Levi Lloyd, of Denver, Colorado, and Loren Earl, of Rochester, Minnesota. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. All of the five children were present at the funeral. Mrs. Mohler died December 26, 1922. His brothers and sisters who survive him are Samuel, Mrs. E.O. Harris and Alpha, Toledo, Daniel W., of New Hampton; John, of Hubbard; Noah C., of Laurens, and Mrs. Mary D. Masten, of Amo, Indiana. Another brother, Eli, died two years ago. He was converted at the age of ten years, and all of his life had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was a faithful and loyal member of the church of his choice. For many years he served as official member, trustee, steward, class leader, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He served as the superintendent of the Garwin Methodist Sunday school for several years and in the same capacity at the Pleasant Hill Sunday school. He also served as choir leader and chorister in the Pleasant Hill church. He was a great lover of music. Mr. Mohler was a hard worker throughout his entire life, beginning when he was a boy ten years of age he threw himself most assiduously into the tasks of life, giving himself most intensely to each day's duties as they came to hand. He gave himself most generously in service to others. He took all the care and responsibility of his wife during the five years that she was confined to her bed before her death. Mr. Mohler gave himself over most cheerfully and lovingly to her welfare and was faithful to the last degree up to the time of her death. When his brother Eli was seized with a fatal malady, he also gave himself up to his care all of the time for the first five weeks. He always had a pleasant smile and sunshiny way of meeting and greeting people.
