Funeral Services of C.A. Earhart Held Saturday

Former Garwin Man Died in Iowa City - Burial in Rose Hill

Funeral services for Charles A. Earhart, 61, Marshalltown, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Rose Hill church northeast of Toledo, and were in charge of L.E. Backvich, adjutant of the Salvation Army in Marshalltown. Mr. Earhart died last Tuesday morning at the University hospital in Iowa City after an extended illness of cancerous tumor of the kidney. Music at the funeral was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Pyle, Mrs. Walter S. Huyck, and H.P. Giger, who sang "Face to Face," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The accompaniments were played by Mrs. Giger. Roy Garrington, of Marshalltown, sang a solo, accompanied by Mrs. Chester Brooks. Casket bearers were B.R. Emerson, C.L. Emerson, O.H. Hennesy, Frank Hennesy, Floyd Blake, and Bert Ray. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Following is a life sketch which was read by Mr. Pyle. Charles Augustus Earhart, son of J.H. and Martha Earhart, was born December 31, 1870, in Howard township, and died at the age of 61 years and 19 days. He was united in marriage with Miss Lulu Mohler, daughter of Levi and Elizabeth Mohler, December 21, 1893. Mr. and Mrs. Earhart were the parents of nine children, five of whom survive. They are William and John, of Superior, Wisconsin; Elizabeth, Rachel and Robert, at home; a half brother, Walter, of Waverly, and a half sister, Ruth, of Garwin. A sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Abbe, died in May 1931. Five grandchildren also survive. Mr. Earhart spent all of his life in Tama and Marshall counties, with the exception of eight years when he resided in Superior, Wisconsin. He was well-known in the several communities in which he lived and was much loved as a neighbor and friend, always ready to help everyone. He had always been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church until he moved to Marshalltown when he transferred his membership to the Salvation Army. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. William Earhart, Superior, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. James Umberg, South Range, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Mohler and children, of Hudson; Frank Smoldt and sons, Robert and Frank, of Marshalltown, and Byron Cooper, of Newton.
