TRAER - Larry L. Staker, 64, of Traer died Wednesday, Aug 27, 2008 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo from cancer. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer, IA.
Larry Lee Staker was born Feb. 15, 1944, in Waterloo, the son of LeRoy and Glenniss (Schoonoveer) Staker. He received his education in the Dysart and Traer school system. Larry then entered the US Army where he serviced his country during the period of 1963-1965.
On December 3, 1966, he was united in marriage to Betty Parizek in Traer. Betty and Larry made their home for a time in Cedar Rapids, but most of their life was spent in Traer. In 1969 he took a job with Wieck Bros. Oil Company and drove their L.P. gas truck until his retirement in 2006.
Larry was an active member of the Traer community and was a member of the American Legion having served as past commander, Traer Fire Department where he had been a member of the state water ball team, Traer Chamber of Commerce and the Traer Golf and Country Club and was currently serving on the Board of Directors. Larry's free time was spent at the country club where he enjoyed golfing and spending time with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Betty, on Oct. 7, 1997.
Survivors inclujde Diane Owens of Traer; a daughter Jodi (Kelvin) Bokhoven of Pella; two brothers, Garry (Ardene) Staker of Traer and Greg (Denise) Staker of LaPorte City; three granddaughters, two sisters-in-law: Mary (Dennis) Cech of Cedar Rapids and Linda (Donald) Kulish of Swisher; and a brother-in-law Tom (Becky) Parizek of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Overton Funeral Home in Traer was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
