Kenneth F. Powell, 90, of Traer died at his home in Traer on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 from a sudden illness.

Mr. Powell's body was donated to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department to further medical research. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in Kenneth's name to the Traer Fire Department.

Kenneth Fred Powell was born on Nov. 16, 1916 on the family farm in rural Traer, IA, the son of Fred and Rosa (Dostal) Powell. He graduated from Traer High School in 1934. Kenneth was employed by D-X Oil Company from 1939 until August of 1942 when he entered the US Army. Kenneth served his country during WW II. After the war, he worked at John Deere until 1947 when he opened an electrical contracting business which he continued until his retirement in 1981.

On Aug. 22, 1947, Kenneth married Norma Ewing at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Kenneth was an active member of the Traer Fire Department for 18 years, and he was a member of the American Legion Post #142 for over 50 years.

Preceding Kenneth in death were his wife Norma, and his sister Ruth (Powell) Hoeppner.

He is survived by his three children, Marc Powell and his wife, Linda of Traer; Dean Matthew Powell and his wife Beth of Arlington, VA; and Kim (Powell) Knight and her husband, Mike of Loveland, CO; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Overeton Funeral Home in Traer has been assisting the family.
