TRAER - Dorothy Mae Nation Philp, 92, of Traer died Friday, May 1, 2009 at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer. There will be a visitation held Saturday, May 16 from 10-11 a.m. at the Traer United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Traer United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Internment will follow at Buckingham Cemetery.

Dorothy Mae Nation Philp was born may 29, 1916 on the family farm Geneseo Township, Tama County; the daughter of Walter and Bessie (Powell) Nation. She attended Geneseo School until her family moved to a farm near Hudson where she graduated as Valedictorian in May 1934 from the Hudson Consolidated High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to Leland J. Philp at Cedar Falls, on April 7, 1936; he preceded her in death on October 25, 1969. Upon her marriage, they lived on a farm near Buckingham. In 1947 Dorothy and Leland purchased a farm northeast of Traer and after her husband's death moved to Traer.

She enjoyed cooking, reading and family activities, she was very family oriented. On July 15, 2008, Dorothy entered Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, where she died peacefully on May 1, 2009 at the age of 92.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Leland; a daughter Delores J. Philp Fairchild and her husband Donald Fairchild; a daughter-in-law Lois Noe Philp; 5 brothers; Archie, Dale, Donald, Roger and Bryce and 2 sisters; Bernice Johannsen and Ercell Smith. Dorothy is survived by a son Tony Philp of Traer; a daughter Darlys Hulme of Vinton; 4 grandchildren; Debra J. Hanneman, Richard D. (Helen) Hulme, Lori (Terry) Thomas and Janet (Kevin) Dostal and 15 great-grandchildren; Megan (Greg) Hupke, Melissa (Bill) Zenk, Kimberly Hanneman, Cate, Olivia, Bradley, Bryan and Sophia Hulme, Sandon and Isabel Huynh, Joshua and Hannah Thomas, Bryant Alayna and Trent Dostal. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Memorials may be directed to Traer United Methodist Church. Overton Family Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
