WATERLOO - David Frank Mitchell, 95, of Waterloo and formerly of rural Buckingham, died Tuesday, Feb 12, 2008 at Friendship Village in Waterloo. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb 16, 2008, at Geneseo United Methodist Church in rural Buckingham with burial in the Geneseo Cemetery.
David Frank Mitchell was born Nov. 13, 1912, on the family farm in rural Buckingham, Iowa, son of Claude Thomas and Sara Elizabeth Burr Mitchell, He received his education at Geneseo School where he graduated in 1930. He continued his education at iowa State University in Ames and then began farming.
On April 4, 1942 he was united in marriage to Katherine Olsen at the First Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, IA. Frank and Katherine made their living farming in the Geneseo community and he also was employed at John Deere and Company in Waterloo from 1967-1977. For the past four years they have resided at the Friendship Village Retirement Community. He was a long time member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church and formerly served as Geneseo Township Clerk and was a 4-H leader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Fanny and Edith and one brother Robert. He s survived by his wife Katherine of Friendship Village, his children Sara (Thomas) O'Neill of Lake Forest, IL, Wade (Cynthia) Mitchell and Drew (Amy) Mitchell all of Buckingham, and Melinda (Mark) Thompson of Kirksville, MO, four brothers, Norman (Doris) Mitchell and Roland Mitchell both of Waterloo, Herald (Elsie) Mitchell of Dysart, and Philip Mitchell of Buckingham, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, was in charge of arrangements.
