TOLEDO – Lillian Mildred (Posusta) Hayek, age 86, of Toledo passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marshalltown surrounded by her family following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Monsignor Stan Hayek as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in rural Toledo.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama where there will be a vigil service at 8 p.m. Lillian was born on December 26, 1922 in Toledo, IA, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Podhajsky) Posusta. She attended country school at Otter Creek #3 where she finished the eighth grade.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Hayek on August 19, 1947 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in rural Toledo. They made their home south of Clutier where they farmed and were blessed with twelve children. During her married life she worked side by side with her husband. She moved to Toledo in 1979 and worked part time at Dick’s Restaurant and King Tower Café. In May of 2001 she moved to the Embers Retirement Community in Marshalltown. Lillian loved family get-togethers including Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter and others. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, crocheting, embroidering, quilting, bingo and playing cards.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Leonard Hayek in 1976; two sons, Anthony "Tony" Hayek in 2002; and Joseph Hayek who died in infancy in 1967; two grandchildren, Holly Hayek, and Chaz Masker; and three brothers, George Posusta, Bill Posusta, and Ernest Posusta. Survivors include four sons, Eugene (Florence) Hayek of Phoenix, AZ, Norman (Doreen) Hayek of Waterlooo, IA; Francis "Frank" (Sonia) Hayek of Toledo and Paul (Lisa) Hayek of West Des Moines, IA; six daughters, Carolyn (Marvin) Bohnstengel of Clutier, IA, Monica (Allen) Brezina of Ankeny, IA, Mary Kay (Terry) Boldt of Traer, IA. Ramona (Mitch) Zimbeck of Hiawatha, IA; Theresa (Rod) Masker of Phoenix, Z; and Connie (John) Mahlstede of Marshalltown, IA; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hayek of Clutier, IA; thirty-five grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren,; one sister, Eleanor Kupka of Toledo, IA; and one brother, Art (Betty) Posusta of Tama, IA.

A memorial fund has been established.
