TRAER – Earl "Hep" Hoeppner, 87, of Traer died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls after a short illness. Services were held on Sat., Jan. 17, 2009 at United Methodist Church in Traer with burial following at Buckingham Cemetery. Military rites were performed by Traer American Legion.

Earl "Hep" Henry Hoeppner was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Traer, the son of Henry and Adele Catherine (Ladehoff) Hoeppner. Hep received his education in Traer with his best friend and classmate Bruce Erickson where he graduated in 1939.

In June of 1942 he entered the United States Army where he served his country during WWII where he obtained the rank of Sgt. Following his discharge in 1946 he returned to Traer and on April 27, 1947 was united in marriage to Ruth M. Powell at Whitten.

Hep began his employment as a bookkeeper for Cooper and Dalziel and later was a partner when the business became the Traer Sales Company. In 1971 he sold the business and worked several years at Sealock Ag Service. He was a 63-year member of the Kubik Finch American Legion, attended and supported the Traer United Methodist Church and served the Traer City Council. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth in 2001, a daughter Jean Marie, a brother Harold, and a sister Eleanor Scharfenberg.

He is survived by one daughter Jane Seeley and her husband Jim of Cedar Falls, grandsons; Alex Seeley of Waterloo and Adam Seeley of Decatur, GA and a special friend Barbara Dedic of Traer.
