Funeral services for Gerald Howard, 88 of Traer were held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at a later date at the Buckingham Cemetery.

Gerald died on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer following a lengthy illness.

Gerald Eugene Howard was born Jan. 5, 1919 in Sehlby, IA, son of Abram Alvin and Nova Kern Howard. At the age of 4 he moved with his family to the Traer area and graduataed from Traer High School in 1936.

On Jan. 28, 1939 he was united in marriage to Marcella Wilkinson in Maquoketa, IA. Jerry and Marcella made their home in the Geneseo and Traer area. He was a farmer for 44 years and sold Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance 35 years. He was a member of the Lions Club, a volunteer for the Traer Ambulance and was active in church activities especially at the Geneseo United Methodist Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, son Paul Howard, son-in-law Dennis Taylor, grandson Cory Howard, and two brothers Rex and Leighton Howard.

He is survived by his wife Marcella of Traer, his daughter Kay Edleman and husband, Gerald of Anamosa, IA, daughter-in-law Marcia Ketter and husband Robert, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother Wendell Howard and wife Pauline of Traer and sister-in-law Mary Ann Howard.

Overton Funeral Home-Traer was in charge of the arrangements.
