Hudson – Donald Lee Fairchild, 72, of Hudson, died Friday, March 9, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, from complications of leukemia.

He was born May 11, 1934 in Independence, son of Harry and Dora Butterfield Fairchild. He married Mary Lynn Elaine Kurtz on June 20, 1959. She died December 6, 1976. He married Delores Jean Philip on June 15, 1979. She died September 21, 1998. He married Marilyn Miller Hoskins on September 24, 1999.

Mr. Fairchild graduated from Union High School in 1953 and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed by John Deere Product Engineering Center for 35 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Hammond Avenue Brethren Church; was a 36-year member of the Traer American Legion; was Boy Scout leader for Troop 304 for 30 years, and volunteered in the Traer and Hudson high schools.

Survivors include: his wife; five sons, Jerone (Tarayssa) Fairchild of Cedar Rapids, Robert (Pam) Fairchild of Gladbrook, Andy (April) Fairchild of Columbus, OH, Adam (Cari) Fairchild of Davenport and Ronald (Peggy) Hoskins of Waterloo; four daughters, Elizabeth (Kip) Gregg of Chesterhill, OH, Kathleen (Craig) Heise of Denver, IA, Karen (Bruce) Vander Sanden of Cedar Rapids and Jeannine (Kevin) Eppens of Ankeny; 29 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Willard (Norma) Fairchild of Waverly, Vernon Fairchild of Flagstaff, AZ, and Richard (Jeannie) Fairchild of Catawba, Wis.; a sister Evelyn (Donald) Puder of Twin Falls, Idaho; and two stepbrothers: Maurice (Vivian) Barnes of Marion and Merwin (Ruth) Barnes of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by a stepbrother, Monty Barnes.

Memorial services: 10 a.m., Saturday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, Waterloo, with inurnment in Grant Township Cemetery. Public visitation following the service at the church. Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo is assisting with arrangements.
