TAMA-Irma (Youngbear) Lasley, age 72, of the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama, entered into eternal life, Friday, January 4, 2008 at her home in rural Tama.
Traditional Funeral Rites will be held Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Settlement with Homer Bear Jr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake was held Saturday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building.
Irma was born on January 13, 1935, at the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Davenport) Youngbear. She grew up in the area of her birth and received her education at the Sac & Fox Day School and graduated from the Tama High School in 1953.
Irma was employed as a nurse’s aid at the Bethesda Care Center in Toledo and the Sac & Fox Tribe as a Community Health Representative and later retired from there. She enjoyed spending time at the casino and spending time with family and making frybread.
Preceding her in death were her parents; six brothers, Frank, Herbert, Eugene, Stanley, Wilford and Chris Youngbear; one sister, Freida (Youngbear) Blackcloud; three sons, Vincent Lasley, Vernon Lasley, and Alvin Bear; and one grandson, Nigel Lasley.
Survivors include her husband, Victor; two sons, Virgil Lasley and Prentiss Wolf; eight daughters, Vicki (Homer) Bear Jr., Valerie Lasley, Veronica Lasley, Sandra (Owen) Kapayou, Mary (Ray) Tahahwah, Vangie Lasley (Eddie Kapayou Jr.), Ann Lasley, and Vestana Lasley; two sisters, Alma (Jimmie) Ward and Hilda Youngbear; fifty-four grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
