Marian G. Cole, age 88, a resident of Granger Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of Toledo, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the care center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 10:30 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Reverend Gus Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
Marian was born on August 19, 1918 in Waterloo, the daughter of Daniel and Fern (Farrar) Gutknecht. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1936. Marian then attended and graduated from Gates Business College. She married Lewis H. Cole on February 12, 1942, and they later divorced. Marian worked as a secretary for Iowa Fire Insurance Company, and later worked for the A.S.C.S. office in Toledo. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Toledo, and was active in the ladies circle. Marian was an avid bridge player and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Frances Miller, and a grandson Jeff Shoemaker.
Survivors include her children, Cindy (Doug) Zmolek of West Des Moines, Verna (Dave) Shoemaker of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Steve (Cynthia) Cole of Grand Junction, Colorado; five grandchildren, Chad Zmolek, Jeremy Zmolek, Stephanie Rojas, Ryan Cole, and Garrett Shoemaker; five great-grandchildren; and a brother Don Gutknecht of Bellingham, Washington.
A memorial fund has been established.
