John Fitzgerald Roberts, age 35, of Tama, died Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center due to a sudden illness. Traditional Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Settlement with Michael Keahna as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held on Tuesday evening, May 15th at the Native American Drum Society Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama. Friends may also call on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 12 noon at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
John Fitzgerald Roberts was born on June 21, 1971, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Wanatee) Roberts. He graduated from STC High School in 1990 and was formerly employed in inventory at the Meskwaki Bingo and Casino. John enjoyed playing guitar, boxing, cheering his kids on in sports, and playing with his four legged kids (dogs). His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; Norma Jean Roberts and Marva Lisa Roberts, his paternal grandparents, John and Nina (Youngbear) Roberts, maternal grandparents, Frank and Adeline (Morgan) Wanatee Sr., and a niece Nora Moreno.
Survivors include his wife Missy (See) Roberts of Tama; children, Kylan, Kelcie and Jade Roberts of Tama; his Goddaughter Haley Croskey of Tama; His parents Isaac and Elizabeth Roberts of Tama; Four sisters and one brother, Andrianne (Steve) Gomez of Tama, Troy (Sandy) Roberts of Tama, Mona Roberts of Cedar Rapids, Marian Roberts of Tama, and Keshena Roberts of Tama; Two adopted sisters and three adopted brothers, Henrietta (Harlan) Brown of Tama, Linda Morgan of Tama, Leland Morgan of Tama, Keith Mitchell of Ottumwa and Malcom Mitchell of Tama; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
