Vernie Violet Sturtz, age 98, a resident of Grandview Acres in Toledo died Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the center under the care of Iowa Hospice following a lengthy illness.
Public Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown with Reverend Scott Sturtz, officiating. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.

Vernie was born on February 17, 1909 in Melbourne, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Laura (Jontz) Waltemeyer. She was united in marriage to Donald F. Sturtz on December 10, 1932 in Montour. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son, Vernon Sturtz.
Survivors include her children, David (Norma) Sturtz of Marshalltown, Doug (Shirleen) Sturtz of Decorah, and Gayle Weidner of Toledo; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Charles Waltemeyer of Melbourne and Robert Waltemeyer of Colorado; and a half-sister, Norma Boyle of Conrad.
A memorial fund has been established for Iowa Hospice.
