Julia Marie Hawkins, age 91, of Toledo, died on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Grandview Acres in Toledo due to a short illness. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama with Pastoral Associate Tom Christoffer as celebrant. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be Friday, May 25, 2007 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM.
Julia Marie Hawkins was born on March 25, 1916, in rural Chelsea, the daughter of John W. and Frances (Brezina) Dolash.
On January 22, 1939, she was united in marriage to Milton Hawkins in Des Moines, Iowa. She was formerly employed at area nursing homes. Julia was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama and the Tama American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, cooking and especially baking.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Milton Hawkins; one brother, John A. Dolash; one sister, Marie Hlas; one son, Melvin Hawkins; two daughters, Goldie Mae Hawkins in infancy and Karen Schroeder; two grandchildren, Chad and Heather Hawkins; and one great-grandson, Joseph Kucera.
Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Boles of Toledo and Jean (Ron) Jones of Grinnell; one son, Harlan Hawkins of Marshalltown; one brother, Joseph (Betty) Dolash of San Antonio, TX; eighteen grandchildren; forty eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
