MERRILL WOOD

Funeral services for Merrill B. Wood, 83, of Traer, were held Saturday, July 7 at the United Methodist Church in Traer, with burial at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. He died suddenly at his home at 710 Second Street, Traer on Thursday, July 5.

The Rev. Merk Binder of Ripley United Church of Christ officiated at the funeral service. Joleen Harrington provided organ music and Wayne Dunlavey was vocalist. Honorary casket bearers were: Earl Hoeppner, Rufus Ehlers, Howard Davis, Gordon Keith and Clarence Kuhlenbeck. Active. casket bearers were Rod Dunlavey, David Brezina, Dennis Wood, Edward Stoakes, Thomas Neidick and Denny Berger.

Mr. and Mrs. Marion Berger and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Rasmussen tended to the floral tributes.

Merrill B. Wood was born near Traer, IA, on Sept. 15, 1906, the son of Frederick and Annabel (Merrit) Wood. He attended a country school in the area and later graduated from Traer High School in the class of 1925. He farmed with his father and brother, Marvin, until 1946, when Merrill and his father started a trucking and livestock business in Traer.

He married Frances Speirs May 10, 1938 at the little Brown Church at Nashua In 1988, the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary.

In more recent years, Merrill was a Waterloo Courier route man, until his retirement. His health had been failing for the past several months.

Merrill was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald.

He is survived by his wife, Frances of Traer; one son, LeRoy of Traer; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Shirley) DeLucia of Durham, NC; a brother, Marvin and two sisters, Dorothy Dunlavey and Gleneva Hansen, all of Traer, and four grandchildren.
