OBITUARY

Gordon C. Wood was born Jan. 29, 1913 at Traer, Iowa; the son of Jay and Rebecca (Walkup) Wood. He received his education in Traer and was a member of the first class to go into the new building and later graduated in Class of 1931.

He began farming until 1938 when he worked for Pemberton Imp. Company for one year. In 1939 he returned to farming and on January 4, 1942 he was united in marriage to Wilma Bowen and they made their home on a farm near Traer.

In August of 1974 they purchased a home in Traer and on December 10, 1974 they moved in. In April of 1975 Gordon began working at the nursing home and was employed there for 8 years.

Gordon's death came on Thursday, September 21, 1995 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo at the age of 82 years.

In free moments Gordon and Wilma enjoyed traveling which included seeing all of the 50 states and a special trip to Alaska to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

He was a member of the united Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and held several offices. He also was an active member of the Hesperia Lodge, which he joined in 1944. He served as Master in 1952, Secretary for over 25 years. DLT certificate in 1955 and 50-year certificate in 1994. He also was a past member of the Consistory, El Kahir Shrine, & Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife Wilma and one son Robert of Traer, one daughter, Cathy (Mrs. Francis) Halsted of Cedar Rapids; one brother, J. C. of Traer and one sister, Maxine Severson, of Gainsville, Georgia, four grandchildren, Todd R., Paul A., Tara J., and Anna R.
