OBITUARY
HELEN WHITMORE
Funeral services for Helen L. Whitmore, 88, of Dysart, were held Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 1998, at the Geneseo United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Pam Flanigan. Burial was in the Geneseo Cemetery, Buckingham, IA.
She died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center in La Porte City.
Music for the funeral service was provided by Mary Nelson, organist and Paul Lindeman, vocalist.
Casket bearers were Kevin Whitmore, Brian Morrison, Mike Morrison, Brad Whitmore, Bryce Whitmore and Scott Whitmore.
Helen L. Whitmore was born Sept. 19, 1909, at Agar, SD, the daughter of Edgar and Mary (Smith) Speer. As a young girl she moved to the Geneseo area where she attended the Geneseo Schools and later graduated from Geneseo High School in the Class of 1928.
On Dec. 31, 1937, she was united in marriage to Ernest Whitmore at Geneseo. Helen and Ernest made their home farming in Geneseo Township all their married life on the farm where their son, Ed, has lived since 1943.
Helen served as President of the Geneseo Township Cemetery for many years being active in the church circle. She was a former 4-H leader and kept busy helping raise her grandson, Nick.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ernest, on May 8, 1980; two brothers and an infant son.
Helen is survived by three sons, and their wives: Ed and Linda Whitmore of Buckingham, Leland and Linda Whitmore of Cedar Falls and Rodney and Laurie Whitmore of Eyota MN; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildrren.
