OBITUARY

Martha Marie Whipple was born March 27, 1915 a Traer, Iowa, daughter of Louis and Blanche Sevcik Halupnik. She graduated from Traer High School in the class of 1932 and taught school for a time in Old Buckingham. In 1936 she was chosen "Miss Traer" in the first local beauty pageant.

On July 6, 1938, Martha was married in Clear Lake, Iowa to Renee Whipple, a Traer restaurant owner, and the couple made their home in Traer.

After her husband's death on December 20, 1950, Martha made her home with her mother in Traer and worked as a member of the North Tama School cooking staff, a position she held for over 25 years.

In February 1981, Martha retired from the school because of ill health and made her home with her son and his family until February 18 of this year when she entered St. Francis Hospital at Waterloo. Her health continued to fail and her death came at the hospital Monday, March 8, 1982, at the age of 65 years.

Martha is survived by one daughter, Judith Shere of Dunedin, FL, one son Robert Whipple of Dysart; one brother Ernest Halupnik of Traer; four sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Blanche) Gloe of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Marvin (Marcella) Kostlan of Buckingham, Mrs. Carl (Marian) Samo of Grundy Center and Mrs. Don (Eleanor) Koch of Reinbeck, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. George and Edward.
