In December 1922 she married Donald Staveley. They operated the Vista Stock Farm three miles north of Traer until 1943, when they moved to Traer. They were divorced in 1958.

In addition to returning to school to qualify as a substitute teacher in Traer, she also served as a scout den mother, and clerked at a main street store and at the Star Clipper.
