OBITUARY

CLARENCE "SAM" STARCK

Funeral services for Clarence "Sam" Starck, 72, of Traer were held Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 26, 1997, at Overton Funeral Home in Traer with burial in Crystal Cemetery, rural Toledo.

He died of cancer Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.

Clarence F. Starck was born Nov. 20, 1924 in rural Garwin, the son of Adolph and Alma (Frahm) Starck. He received his education through the 11th grade at Garwin and graduated from Geneseo High School in 1942.

He then farmed near Dysart for several years.

On Nov. 7, 1945, he was united in marriage to Florence Schlicht at Waterloo. Sam and Florence made their home on the farm for one year before moving to Traer, where he worked in the plumbing and heating business. later the couple operated Starck's Plumbing and Heating business until 1963 when they moved to Waterloo.

Sam then worked at Chamberlain Corporation until his retirement in 1989. The couple returned to Traer to make their home at 606 First Street. Sam was known as a man of many talents and enjoyed fixing things for his daughters and friends; he also enjoyed reading and keeping up on current events.

He was a member of Ripley United Church of Christ; Tama-Toledo Eagles; International Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son, Carey; one brother, Elmer and two sisters, Frances Lane and Lillie Yaggy.

He is survived by his wife, Florence of Traer; two daughters Mrs. George (Carol) Ogborn of Elmhurst, IL, and Donna Starck of Des Moines; two sisters, Linda Benson of Dinsdale and Florence Paustian of Traer; one grandson and three granddaughters.
