OBITUARY
WILFRED "BOOB" SPEIRS
Funeral services for Wilfred "Boob" Speirs, 82, of Traer were held Saturday afternoon, July 19, 1997, at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer, with full military graveside rites by the Traer American Legion Post. He died at Sunrise Hill Care Center Thursday, July 17, 1997.
The Rev. Rick Vesely, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, officiated the service. Jeanette Tomlinson served as organist and vocalist was Wayne Dunlavey.
Casket bearers were members of the Traer American Legion. Flowers were tended to by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hoeppner and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Froehlich.
Wilfred Seirs was born No. 7, 1914 near Traer, the son of Robert and Amy (Dalziel) Speirs. He received his education in country school and later at Dinsdale High School.
"Boob", as he was called by most of his friends, farmed for a time and then worked for Dr. Voetberg, the local veterinarian. He then entered the US Army and served his country in the Medical Corp in the Pacific during World War II.
Following his discharge he operated a restaurant with Ray McKinney and later became employed by Cooper-Dalziel at the sale barn in Traer. Boob retired from trucking with Earl Hoeppner after many years.
He was an active member and Past Commander of the Traer Kubik-Finch Post of the American Legion and served as mayor of Traer for two terms.
Because of failing health he became a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center in 1988.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Sandy and Robert and one sister, Ethel Tomlinson.
Surviving are two brothers, David Speirs of Traer and Richard Speirs of Sun City, Ariz., as well as several nieces and nephews.
