OBITUARY
SANDY SPEIRS
Services for Sandy Speirs, 78, of Traer, were held Monday, April 11, at the Amity Presbyterian Cburch, rural Reinbeck, with burial in Buckingham Cemetary, rural Traer. Military rites were conducted by Kubik-Finch Post No. 142, Traer American Legion.
Mr. Speirs died Thursday, April 7, 1994, at Covenant Medical Center of an apparent heart attack. The services were conducted by the Rev. Louise Brokaw with Jo Dieken as organist.
Casket bearers were Russell Speirs, William Speirs, Donald Speirs, David Dorn, Chris Dorn and Marlyn Spence. Flowers were tended to by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Arp.
Sandy Speirs was born Jan. 11, 1916, on a farm northwest of Traer, the son of Robert and Amy (Webster) Speirs. He attended country scbool near Dineda1e and then began farming with his father. Sandy served bis country with the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded five Bronze Stars for the Normandy, North France, Rhineland and Ardennes Campaigns. He also received a Purple Heart after being wounded July 28, 1944.
Following his diecharge he returned to farming and was united in marriege to Ruth Sager Jan. I, 1949, at Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo. The couple made their home on a farm northwest of Traer all their married life, where they were engeged in farming.
He was a member of the Amity Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed reading and taking long walks.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brotber, Robert and one sister, Ethel Tomlinson. Surviving are his wife, Ruth of Traer; one son, Robert and his wife, Paula, of Grundy Center; one daughter, Nancy and her husband, Art Calderwood of Traer; three brothers, Wilfred and David, both of Traer and Richard of Sun City, Ariz.; five grandsons and one granddaughtar. Overton Funeral Home, Traer was in charge of arrangements.
