OBITUARY
MARJORIE SPARRGROVE
Funeral services for Marjorie L. Sparrgrove, 71, of Traer, will be held Thursday, Aug. 26, at 11 am at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer with burial to take place at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday at Overton Funeral Home in Traer.
Marjorie died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1993 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following a long illness.
Marjorie Louise Sparrgrove was born in Chariton Township, Iowa, Feb. 18, 1922, the daughter of Ralph Ray and Helen (Wheeler) Anthony. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in the class of 1940.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Dewain Sparrgrove Oct. 20, 1940, and the couple made their home in Cedar Rapids before moving to West Branch where they operated a grocery store.
In 1978 Marjorie and Dewey moved to Traer where they operated the Jack and Jill Grocery Store. When she was not helping Dewey in the grocery store she was spending time with her family, sewing, reading or doing crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Don and Tom Anthony.
Surviving are her husband, Dewey of Traer; four sons and their spouses, Dewain and Kathy of Des Moines, William and Chris of Vienna, Austria, Phillip and Pam of Cedar Rapids, Eric and Kathy of Mission, TX; four daughters and their spouses, Cinda and William Tanner of Iowa City, Kristi and Greg Mumford of Marion, Debra and Bob Lumpa of Saudi Arabia and Karen and Jeff Hanover of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Roger Anthony of Woodbridge, VA and Dan Anthony of Wisner, Neb.; three sisters, Virginia Barton of Highland, CA, Barbara Roseburg of Cedar Edge, CO, and Jane Arnold of Mechanicsville, IA; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
