OBITUARY
Doris C. Smith was born March 1, 1905 in Franklin County, Iowa; the daughter of Ernest and Ella (Patrick) Clock. She attended school at Hampton, Iowa and later graduated from Hampton High School. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then began teaching and taught in Creston and Traer for over 30 years.
In January of 1929 she was married to Herbert Kahler and they made their home all their married life in Traer.
Following Herbert's death in September of 1964 she continued to make her home in Traer and on January 17, 1970 she was married to Gordon Smith at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Gordon and Doris made their home at 801 2nd Street in Traer where Doris continued to make her home following Gordon's death on December 26, 1986.
In January of this year Doris became a resident of the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer where her death came on Tuesday, February 7, 1995 at the age of 89 years.
In free moments Doris enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of the Ripley United Church of Christ and P.E.O.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Herbert and Gordon, one sister Evelyn White and one brother Ed Clock.
She is survived by one son Kay Don Kahler of Shelton, Conn., one daughter Nancy (Mrs. Dean) Degner, a twin sister Dorothy Lawrence of Fort Scott, KS, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
