OBITUARY

HILDA SKALA

Funeral services for Hilda Margaret Skala, 92, of Traer and formerly of Garwin, were held Tuesday morning, Oct. 20 at the united Methodist Church in Garwin officiated by the Rev. Douglas Due. Burial was in Crystal Cemetery, rural Toledo.

Hilda died at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, following a short illness.

A memorial fund has been established.

Music for the funeral service was provided by Ila Jean Boerm.

Casket bearers were Gary Puls, Dan Ewoldt, Greg Ewoldt, Tom Ewoldt, mark Puls, Ronnie Puls, Todd Skala and Scott Wickham. Tending to flowers were Hilda's granddaughters and granddaughters-in-law.

Hilda M. Puls Skala was born Nov. 6, 1905, in Howard Township near Toledo, IA, the daughter of Johannes and Alvena (Frahm) Boerm. She received her education in Howard #2 country school.

In 1927 she was united in marriage to Arthur Puls. they made their home farming in Howard Township. Arthur died in 1945.

In 1960 she married Joe Skala and the couple made their home on a farm near Toledo until Joe's death in 1976.

Hilda moved to Garwin in January of 1977. In October 1994 she became a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.

Hilda was a member of the Garwin United Methodist Church and the UMW. She had served as church historian for many years. She was also a member of the Girls Yet Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Arthur and Joe; one step-son, Richard Skala; two step-daughters, Betty Lewers and Marlan Wiebold; three brothers, Harold, Raymond and John Boerm; and one sister, Elsie Skala.

She is survived by one son, Harold Puls of Gladbrook; three daughters, Mildred Puls of Toledo, Pauline Ewoldt of Traer and Vernetta Wickham of Leavenworth, KS; one step-son, Robert Skala of Toledo; two brothers, Edwin Boerm of Traer and Roy Boerm of Toledo; 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
