OBITUARY

MAXINE SEVERSON

Funeral services were held Monday, March 30, 1998 for Maxine Wood Severson, 81, of 3238 Golf Club Drive, Gainesville, GA. She died Friday, March 27 at her home following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville, with burial at Alta Vista Cemetery there. Officiating at the funeral service were the Revs. Dr. Philip DeMore and Dr. Dwight Nysewander. Martha Stratton was organist and Marian Hosch was pianist, with Sam and Dorothy Blount providing vocal music.

Maxine was born on a farm near Traer, IA on June 19, 1916 the daughter of Jay and Rebecca (Walkup) Wood. She grew up near Traer and graduated from Traer High School in 1933. She attended Iowa State College in Ames, where she majored in home economics.

On July 21, 1940, Maxine married Curtis R. (Curt) Severson and they moved to Brookings, SD. They later lived in St. Louis, MO, then Atlanta, GA. In July 1972, the couple moved to Gainesville.

Maxine was selected Woman of the Year for the Arthritis Foundation several years ago.

Maxine was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and she was a longtime member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a 60-year member of Bona Dea Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Traer.

Preceding Maxine in death were her parents; a brother, Gordon Wood, and another brother in infancy.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis R. (Curt) Severson of Gainesville; a son, Curt R. Severson Jr. of Griffin; a daughter, Gayle Severson Patton of Lancaster, IL, and a brother, J. C. Wood of Traer.
