OBITUARY

EMILY RUSSELL

Services for Emily Russell, 95, of Traer, will be held Friday, May 1 at Overton Funeral Home in Traer, where friends may call after 3 pm Thursday.

Burial will be in Fairfax Cemetery. She died Tuesday, April 28 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Born March 8, 1897 in Walford, she attended school there and graduated from Mount Mercy College with a music degree. She taught piano in the rural Walford area for several years, and married John Russell on Aug. 10, 1915. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at their home in Traer in 1985.

They farmed for many years in the Traer area, retiring in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1985; two sons, Dale and Donald; and a half-sister, Ione Benesh.

She is survived by three sons, Jack and Bill, both of Traer and Earl of Hudson; four daughters, Vera Sanders of Dysart, Marion Olson of Marshalltown, Anna Prohaska of Solon and Marvel Donohoe of Cedar Rapids; a half-brother, Kenneth Benesh of Upland, CA; and a half-sister, Vivian Christen of Walford; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchiddren and great-great-grandchildren.
