OBITUARY

John Russell was born July 27, 1889, near Fairfax, Iowa, in Benton County, son of William J. and Jennie [Mitchell] Russell. He attended school near Fairfax and then began farming.

John married Emily Zabokrjsky on August 11, 1915, in Cedar Rapids and they farmed in the Fairfax and Cedar Rapids area until 1942, when they moved to a farm in Geneseo Township.

John and Emily raised a family of nine children as well as their grandchild Connie who lived with them until 1969.

In October of 1972, John and Emily moved to 610 North St. in Traer, where Emily still makes her home.

Recently John has resided at Sunrise Hill Care Center at Traer where he died Thursday, November 28, 1985, at the age of 96 years. John and Emily celebrated over 70 years of marriage in August of this year.

In his spare time John enjoyed spending time with his family and also hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dale, and is survived by his wife Emily of Traer; four sons, Jack and William of Traer, Donald of Marshalltown and Earl of Dysart; four daughters, Mrs. Ed [Vera] Sanders of Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Arden [Marion] Olson of Marshalltown, Mrs. Dick [Anna] Prohaska of Solon, Iowa, and Mrs. Claude [Marvel] Donohoe of Cedar Rapids, as well as twenty grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
