OBITUARY

Gladys M. Pokorny was born 23 March 1929 on a farm southwest of Dysart, Iowa, the daughter of William and Marie (Marinec) Hach. Gladys received her education at Dysart and was Salutatorian of the Class of 1947. She then became employed by the Farmers Savings Bank in Traer for two years and on November 22, 1949 she married Ernest Pokorny at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier, Iowa.

They began their life farming southwest of Traer where they lived for 16 years. In 1966 they moved southeast of Traer to make their home.

In the early 1970's, Gladys contracted a degenerative disease and her health has declined over the years. In the last six years, Gladys had been a resident of the Americana Healthcare Center in Waterloo where her death came on Monday, June 26, 1995, at the age of 66 years.

In free moments Gladys enjoyed dancing, gardening, working on the farm and spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Rosary Society, Perry Township Homemakers, national Catholic Society of Forresters, Z.C.B.J. Lodge, and the Area VII MS Service League.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother.

She is survived by her husband Ernest, one daughter Cynthia of Denver, CO, three sons; Steven of Iowa City, and Kevin and David both of Des Moines; her mother Marie Hach of Traer, two brothers; Melvin and Wilbert Hach both of Dysart, two grandsons and three granddaughters.
