OBITUARY

LINDA POKORNY

A Funeral Mass was celebrated for Linda Joyce Pokorny, 50, of Clutier, Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clutier, with the Rev. Thomas Purtell as Celebrant. Burial was in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, rural Clutier. A vigil service was held at the Immaculate Conception Church Monday evening. She died Sunday Oct. 18, 1992 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Serving as lector was Patricia Pokorny and music for the service was provided by Carolyn Bohnstengel, organist; Ronald Mason, soloist and the church choir. Mass servers were Brian Velky and Doug Knoop.

Casket bearers were Rick Krug, Rick Grant, Randy Grant, Leon McBride, Leo McBride and Duane Hosek. Honorary bearer was David Kucera. In charge of floral tributes were Craig and Sharon Earley and Jerry and Leona Velky. Mass offerings were handled by Linda Dvorak and Linda Hosek.

Linda Pokorny was born Sept. 19, 1942, at Louisiana, MO, the daughter of Lyle and Mary Etta (Palmer) Cross. She grew to womanhood in Tama County and graduated from Clutier High School with the Class of 1960. After graduation, she attended a Cedar Rapids beauty school.

She was united in marriage to John A. Pokorny Sept. 2, 1961, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier. She was employed at Wright Pharmacy in Traer for 10 years and for the past two years was employed by the Farmers Savings Bank and Trust in Traer in customer service.

She was a member of the I.C. Catholic Church of Clutier, National Society of Catholic Foresters and the Rosary Society.

Linda enjoyed her family, collecting antiques, refinishing furniture and attending auctions or flea markets. Her warm smile and friendliness will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Dwight Cross in April of 1992.

She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Mrs. Curtis (Barbara) Kopriva of Traer and Mary Pokorny of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Bruce Pokorny of Cedar Rapids and Stewart Pokorny of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren; one brother, Daryl Cross of Liscomb; her stepmother, Jean Cross of Toledo and one stepbrother, John William Safley of Tama.

A memorial fund is being established.
