OBITUARY

JAMES PODHAJSKY

A Funeral Mass for James A. Podhajsky, 86, of Traer, was held Friday, Oct. 29, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, rural Clutier. Burial was in the church cemetery. He died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, Oct. 16, 1993.

Celebrating the Funeral Mass were the Rev. Thomas Purtell and the Rev. Jon Seda. Special music was provided by the St. Wenceslaus Choir accompanied by Mrs. Donald McLean.

Casket bearers were Robert Podhajsky, Stanley Podhajsky, Marvin Seda, Donald Podhajsky, Dale Podhajsky and Richard Dostal. Tending to Mass cards were Irma Podhajsky and Cecelia Podhajsky, and tending to floral tributes were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rickert and Mr. and Mrs. Pressley Cochran. Lector was Margaret Herink, ushers were Lawrence Svoboda and Bernard Svoboda and bearing gifts were Ernie and Lawrence Podhajsky and Marily Weil.

James A. Podhajsky was born June 16, 1907, the son of James G. and Mary (Nachazel) Podhajsky on the family farm south of Traer. He received his education in country school in Perry Township then began farming with his family.

On Oct. 4, 1932, Jimmy was married to Sylvia Chalupnick at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, rural Clutier, and they made their home farming on the family farm south of Traer.

In November of 1975, the couple moved to make their home at 508 9th Street in Traer to enjoy their retirement.

Jimmy was a pioneer in the development of the small round baler which was later manufactured by the Allis Chalmers Corporation. He also spent many hours baling for himself and other farmers, and enjoyed fishing and playing cards in his spare time.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William, and three sisters, Agnes Podhajsky, Emma Dostal and Mary Seda.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; two sons, Ernie and Lawrence, both of Traer, a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Marilyn) Weil of Golden, CO; two brothers, Milo and Rudy of Traer; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Overton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
