OBITUARY
DONALD MARTIN
Funeral services for Donald E. Martin, 80, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Traer, were held Tuesday, Oct.15 at Traer United Methodist Church, with burial at Crystal Cemetery, rural Toledo. He died Saturday morning, Oct. 12, 1991 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Officiating at the funeral service was the Rev. Martha Anderson. Organist was Joleen Harrington and vocalist was Wayne Dunlavey. Casket bearers were Brad Martin, Jeff Gray, Tyler Martin, Tim Gray; Darrell Paustian and Elmer Bradley. Tending to floral tributes were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vorba and Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Kahler.
Donald E. Martin was born in Tama County, Iowa, on Jun.12, 1911, the son of Samuel H. and Florance Hazel (Mann) Martin. He received his education in a country school, and later graduated from Traer High School with the class of 1930. He began farming with his father and on Sept. 2, 1933 was united in marriage to Maxine Dickey at Waukon. They made their home farming in Crystal Township. In 1976, Don and Maxine retired to Traer, then in 1987 moved to Cedar Rapids.
Don was an avid sports enthusiast and was a member of the 1930 Traer football team. After his playing years, he enjoyed following the locaI sports team. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and he was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph. Don is survived by his wife, Maxine of Cedar Rapids; a son, Terry and his wife, Dixie of Cedar Rapids; a daughter and son-in-law, Molly and John Gray of Los Angeles, Calif. and five grandchildren.
