OBITUARY
Marvin Dale Kostlan was born at Traer, Iowa, November 12, 1919, the son of Joseph and Emma [Vochoska] Kostlan. Marvin graduated from Traer HIgh School in 1937 and on October 31, 1941, enlisted in the U. S. Marines. He trained at San Diego, CA and Chicago, IL and served in the Asiatic and Pacific campaigns at New Georgia, New Hebrides, Okinawa, and the Occupation of Japan during WW II. Upon his discharge on November 29, 1945, he returned to farm with his father.
On October 13, 1947, Marvin married Marcella HaIupnik and they made their home on the farm near Buckingham where they continued to live aIfter Marvin's retirement.
Marvin was a 45-year member of Kubik-Finch Post 142 Of the American Legion and served as its firing squad leader until recently. Marvin's health failed in recent months and he suddenly became ill at his home on Tuesday, September 3, 1991, and died that day of an appaarent heart attack at the age of 71 years. Marvin was preceded in death by an infant son Robert, his parents, one sister Winona, and a brother James.
He is survived by his wife Marcella of Buckingham; one son John of Traer; one daughter, Mrs. Michael [Susan] Warrens at Banks, Oregon; one granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Kostlan, and two sisters, Mercedes Hoeppner of Hudson and Mrs. Loren [Marilyn] Peterson of Waterloo.
