OBITUARY
BERYL E. NELSEN
Beryl E. Nelsen, 78, Traer, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, March 24, at the Traer United Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Rick Vesely. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery.
Beryl was born April 4, 1922, at Searcy, AR the daughter of Earl and Vera (Clark) Oliver. She received her education in Searcy, graduating from Searcy High School.
She worked at an ammunition plant in Arkansas until her marriage to Maxwell Nelsen of the US Marine Corps Oct. 14, 1944, at the home of her parents. Beryl and Max made their home in Arkansas before moving to Iowa in 1946 where she worked in Waterloo. Then they started farming in Buckingham Township and later near Voorhies, Hudson, Geneseo and south of Traer. In 1973 they owned and operated the True Value Hardware Store in Traer.
In later years Beryl worked at Silver Streak Lanes and was still working at the time of her death.
In free moments she enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, playing cards with friends, gardening and her flowers.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her husband, Max "Bill" Nelsen of Traer; two sons and their wives, Max Jr. and Sandy Nelsen of Traer; Mark and Peggy Nelsen of Runnells, IA; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
