OBITUARY

Opal L. Harrington was born October 30, 1920 at Callender, Iowa in Webster County; the daughter of Clifford Glenn and Fern Leota (Kelly) Hewitt. Opal attended school at Somers, Iowa and later graduated from Farnhamville High School. She continued her education at Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines. She then worked in an office in Rockford, Illinois during the war. On April 3, 1945 she was married to Harold Harrington at Farnahmville and they made their home in Waterloo where she worked for Rath Packing Company. They later moved to Hudson, Iowa where she worked as a beautician. In 1960 they moved to Traer where she worked in the office at Farmers Lumber Company and also at Tuffree’s Chevolet. In July of 1993 she became a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer where her death came on Tuesday, May 2, 1995 at the age of 74 years. In her spare time Opal enjoyed bowling and was an active member of the United Methodist Church and UMW where she held various offices. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son Hewitt “Hoot”. She is survived by her husband Harold of Traer, one son; Bill Harrington of Ottumwa, Iowa, one daughter; Gay (Mrs. Steve) Allen of Kansas City, Missouri, two brothers; Cleve Hewitt of Edgemont, Arkansas, and Robert Hewitt of Des Moines, three sisters; Lucille Poppert of Sacramento, California, Anna Mae Hirschberg of Farnhamville, Iowa, and Lennice Bauer of Churdan, Iowa, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
