Gladys Helm

Services for Gladys Helm, 89, of Dysart were held Wednesday, February 2, 2000, at the Overton Family Funeral Home in Dysart with burial in Oneida Cemetery, rural Cultier. Officiating the service was the Reverend Sheryl Campbell, pastor of Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer.

Gladys died Saturday, January 29, 2000, at Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center in Traer.

Casket bearers were Bruce Boldt, Jerry Krug, Robert Rudebeck, Dean Jensen, Rodney Kavalier and Jim Chizek.

Gladys Heml was born March 5, 1910, on a farm south of Dysart., IA., the daughter of James and Julia (Dvorak) Ludvichek. Gladys received her education at Chelsea, IA and graduated from Chelsea High School in the class of 1929.

On January 6, 1937, she was united in marriage to Elmer Helm at Cedar Rapids. Gladys and Elmer made their home farming on the Helm family farm for 13 years.

In 1950 they purchased a farm hear Hudson, where they lived until 1975 when they retired to Dysart.

After Elmer’s death October 20, 1991, Gladys continued to live in her home until November of 1991 when she moved to Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Elmer and one brother, Lester.

Gladys is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys Ludvicek of Traer and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
