OBITUARY

George R. Harrison was born April 29, 1919 at Traer, Iowa; the son of Clarence and Mae (McNeil) Harrison. He attended Traer schools until joining the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps) serving two years at Marion and Eldora. He then enlisted in the Army in March of 1941. He became a radio operator and was stationed throughout much of Europe during WWII where he earned the rank of Sergeant. George was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945. Following his discharge he worked for a time in Dayton, Ohio as well as Sterling and Rock Falls, Illinois before returning to Traer where he has made his home ever since. On December 1, 1952 he was married to Rebecca L. Sellers of Mt. Auburn at Traer and they made their home in Traer where George was employed at the Traer Lumberyard, Rock Island Railroad. He later became employed for John Deere in Waterloo where he retired on June 30, 1984 after twenty seven years of service. George’s death came in the skilled nursing unit at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Sunday, July 23, 1995 at the age of 76 years. He first entered the hospital on November 8, 1991 and submitted to double bypass and open heart surgery on November 19, 1991. He suffered a set back several days later and because of complications was never able to return home. He is survived by his wife Rebecca, one daughter one her husband; Mary and John Novak of Traer, one sister Violet Riddle of Perris, Ca., and two granddaughters; Angie and Sarah.
