OBITUARY

Funeral services for Dean Allen Zimple, 60, of Traer, were held Saturday, July 2, at the Traer United Methodist Church, with burial at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. He died Wednesday morning June 29, 1994, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo after suffering a heart attack at his home.

The Rev. Myron Brockmeyer officiated at the funeral service, and Joleen Edwards provided the organ music. Casket bearers were Robert Caloud, David Zimple, Scott Zimple, Gary Kupka, Jim Kupka and John Kupka. Tending to the floral tributes were Mr. and Mrs. Murray Whannel, Mrs. and Mrs. Vernon Dengler, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Valenta, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Merchant, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Staker, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Viet and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kladivo

Dean Allen Zimple was born June 8, 1934, south of Traer, IA, the son of Herbert and Ada (Hendershot) Zimple. He attended country school in Perry Township and graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1952.

On Nov. 22, 1954, Dean was united in marriage to Alice Kupka at Traer. They made their home farming southeast of Traer for a time, and later he was in trucking. They moved to make their home in La Porte City for five years, before returning to Traer in 1963. He then began his employment at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo. He retired in 1991.

Dean was an active member of his community. He was involved as a Cub Master and Webelo Leader for several years. Dean was a member and past president of the Traer Lions Club, and was named the Lion of the Year in 1986-87. He also received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and headed up the Traer Czech Fest for several years. Dean also had served as Justice of the Peace in Perry Township for many years. In his spare time, Dean enjoyed dancing, playing cards and working in his garden.

Dean was a longtime member of the Traer United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Herbert Wayne Zimple

He is survived by his wife, Alice of Traer; three sons and their wives, Galen and Carol Zimple of Traer, Larry and Alice Zimple of Cedar Rapids, and Kevin Zimple of Traer; one daughter, Carol Ann Zimple of Marshalltown; one brother, Ray Zimple of Milan, IL, and five grandchildren.

Overton Family Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
