OBITUARY

Richard Dean Young was born January 31, 1928 at Traer, Iowa, the son of Wanda (Wilhelmi) and DeVere Young. He attended school in Traer, graduating with the Class of 1946. Richard then served in the US Navy during World War II.

On December 10, 1949 he was united in marriage to Helen Joan Wiese at Tama, IA. They made their home in Traer and Richard was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works until his retirement in 1987.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 142 and the VFW Post No. 6607. Richard also served on the Traer Fire Department until retiring in 1994. He continued working with the Iowa Fireman's Association and served as Presidenet of the CITA Kirkwood Fire School. Presently he had been serving as District Coordinator and custodian for the Iowa Fireman's Association.

Recently Richard had been in the care of Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where his death came on Sunday, March 11, 2001 at the age of 73 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Daniel and a brother Eugene.

He is survived by his wife Helen of Traer, four sons; Thomas Young of Heyworth, IL, Steven Young of Cedar Rapids, IA, Randall Young of Eldora, IA and Kevin Young of Marshalltown, IA, a daughter Karen Abell of Tahoka, TX, two brothers; Bill Young of Waterloo, IA and Gordon Young of Brandon, IA, a sister Betty Jane Jackson of Ames, IA, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren

Following committal services at the cemetery, family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon at the Traer Memorial Building.
