OBITUARY

Funeral services for James Harold Young, 62, of Traer, were held Wednesday morning, Sept. 30, 1998. The service was at Traer United Presbyterian Church, with burial at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer.

Jim died early Sunday morning, Sept. 27, 1998 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, of cancer.

Officiating at the funeral service was the Rev. Rick Vesely. Mariel Brubaker furnished the organ music. Casket bearers were Keith Earley, John Kostlan, Dean Mauderer, Dick Thompson, Sam Young and Bob Podhajsky. On the flower committee were Sandra Whannel, Don and Donna Wolfram, and Leonard and Lois Vorba.

James Harold Young was born Nov. 15, 1935 at Traer, Iowa, the son of R. Harold and Grace (Romick) Young. Jim received his education in Traer, and graduated in 1953. He continued his education at Coe College in Cedar Rapids from 1953-1954, then received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy from Iowa State University in 1957. In 1960 he attended the University of Iowa where he received his Masters in Business Administration in 1962. Jim worked for four years at the Poweshiek National Bank in Grinnell, and also began farming southwest of Traer.

On July 12, 1978, he was united in marriage to Donna L. Tobin at Cedar Falls, IA, and the couple made their home farming southwest of Traer.

Jim was an active member of his community. He was a member of the Traer United Presbyterian Church, and was its longtime treasurer. He was also a member of the Traer Lions Club, and had served as a director of the Farmers Savings Bank for many years.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Grace Young.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; four children, Deb and Jay Mitchell of Owasso, OK, Diane Tobin of Coralville, Dave and Dawn Tobin of Dysart, and Shane and Angie Franklin of Traer; one sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Allen) Voetberg of Bettendorf, and seven grandchildren: Andrea and Jamie Tobin, Abbey and Emily Tobin, Megan Mitchell and Leah and Noah Franklin.
