OBITUARY

Funeral services for Helen A. Young, 87, of Traer, were held Saturday morning, Jan. 10, 1998, at Overton Funeral Home in Traer with interment in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, Iowa.

She died at Sunrise Hill Care Center Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998.

The Rev. Greg Cluts, pastor of Ripley United Church of Christ, officiated. Music was provided by David Burrier, vocalist. Floral tributes were handled by Mr. and Mrs. Evan Wilson.

Helen Alta young was born at Danville, IL, Jan. 31, 1910. She was the daughter of George and Flora (Bell) Humble. As a small child she moved with her family to North Dakota. Helen's father was a farmer and she helped on the farm and received her education in country school.

She developed a love in caring for people and later worked in a hospital as well as taking care of her eight children.

Helen continued to educate herself and returned to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She became the owner and Administrator of the Traer Convalescent Home for many years, until retiring.

In free moments Helen enjoyed crocheting, sewing, playing cards and visiting with friends.

In recent years her health had failed and she became a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one great-grandchild; five sisters and seven brothers.

Helen is survived by three sons, Leonard of Waverly, Larry of Cambridge, IA, and Harry of Artesia, NM; five daughters, Betty Nixt of Buffalo, MN, Irene Burrier of Escondido, CA, Verna Pint of Sun City, AZ, Darlene Kalvig of La Porte City and Florence Wing of Akron, OH; 26 grandchidren and 45 great-grandchildren.
