OBITUARY

Funeral services for Grace E. young, 91, of Traer, will be held Thursday morning, Feb. 8, 10:30 am at the United Presbyterian Church with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. She died at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, Sunday, Feb. 4, 1996.

The funeral service will be officiated by the Rev. Rick Vesely. Mary Nelson will serve as organist and vocalists will be Jean Staker and Ellen Kern.

Pallbearers will include Burdell Staker, Sam Young, Randy Brubaker, Russell Drinovsky, Keith Earley and Leonard Vorba. Floral tributes will be handled by Mr. and Mrs. Murray Whannel, Laura Brubaker and Margaret Young.

Grace E. Young was born March 3, 1904, at Milton, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Grace (Scott) Romick. As a young girl she moved to Traer, where she attended school and graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1921.

Grace continued her education at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

She taught fourth grade at Manson for four years before returning to Traer where she taught fourth grade for seven years.

On June 2, 1934, Grace was united in marriage to R. Harold Young at Amity United Presbyterian Church near Traer. Grace and Harold made their home all their married life in the Traer area and had resided on the Young farm southwest of Traer for over 20 years.

In 1978 the couple moved to Crestview Drive where they lived until they moved to Sunrise Hill Terrace Apartments in 1991. In more recent years they resided at Sunrise Hill Care Center where Grace continued to live following Harold's death on Aug. 4, 1994.

She was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School for several years. Grace was a member of Bonne Volante and a member of Chapter EC of PEO and Order of Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, R. Harold; two brothers, John and Burton Romick and three sisters, Ariel Greenberg, Enid Quinn and Doris Lamb.

She is survived by one son and his wife, James and Donna Young of Traer; one daughter and her husband, Dorothy and Allen Voetberg of Bettendorf, IA; one sister, Ruth Dague of Belvidere, IL; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
