OBITUARY

David Matthew Wells was born December 21, 1916 at Randalia, Iowa in Fayette County, the son of William and Flossie (Cannell) Wells. He was baptized in the Fairview Methodist Church and remained a long time member of the Randalia Methodist Church until transferring to the Traer United Methodist Church.

David received his education and graduated from Randalia High School in 1935 as valedictorian.

On June 10, 1945 David was united in marriage to Sylvia Sanderson in the Randalia United Methodist Church. To this union three children were born, Gloria, William and Cynthia.

David enjoyed farming and working with his registered Holsteins and registered Hereford cattle. He was Center Township 4-H leader for several years, Center Township Trustee, Church Lay Leader, as well as numerous other offices. David served on the Fayette County Mutual Telephone Board, as well as serving 45 years as treasurer on the Dunham Grove Cemetery Board. David joined the Order of Odd Fellows in 1935 and remains an honorary member.

In 1978 he retired and moved to Traer in 1986. David passed away on December 31, 2002 at the age of 86 years at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his daughter Cynthia Wells-Stansbery, his parents and a sister, Vivian Hubbell Gries. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of 57-1/2 years, daughter Gloria (Thomas) Lee of Panama City, FL, a son, William (Linda) Wells of Polk City, IA, four grandsons; Brian Kirby (Shannon) Wells of Coralville, IA, Brody Mathew Wells of Iowa City, IA, Pvt. Isaiah Wells Stansbery of Good Fellow Air Force Base, TX, and Eli Wells Stansbery of Traer, IA. He is also survived by a sister, Adelaide McBride of Hooper, NE and nieces and nephews.

Following the committal service, family and friends are invited to a luncheon in the church fellowship hall.
