OBITUARY

Donlad J. "Bear" Vokoun was born September 7, 1927 at Traer, Iowa, the son of Joseph J. and Anna (Pecenka) Vokoun. Don received his education at Traer graduating in the Class of 1945. He then entered the US Army serving during the close of WW II. Upon his discharge, he returned to Traer and later married Carolyn Bradley on March 30, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.

They have made their home all their married life in Traer. Don operated the DX Station and later Lone Pine Phillips 66 Station & Cafe. In October of 1956 Don & Carolyn purchased the Dodge dealership and garage and in 1973 they moved to the present location on Highway 8.

Don ws an active member of the community serving on the Traer City Council, Past President of the Chamber of Commerce, a volunteer for the Traer Fire Department and a member of the Traer Amereican Legion. Don was also the voice of the north Tama Redhawks announcing football games for many years. He was also presently serving on the Daimler-Chrysler Advertising Board.

In free moments he enjoyed spending time with his family and boating at their home at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

Recently Don had been a patient at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo where his death came on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at the age of 73 years. Don is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Edward and two sisters, Annie & Mildred. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Traer, a son James and his wife Kris Vokoun of Traer, a daughter, Dalona and her husband Corky Feuerbach of Ackley, IA, a sister, Pauline Manfull of Dysart and four grandchildren, A.J. & Jamie Feuerbach, Amy & Russ Wedemeier, Dustin Feuerbach and Jesse Vokoun.
