OBITUARY

Funeral services for Laraine Taylor, 90, of Waterloo and formerly of La Porte City, were held Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 2000 at the Geneseo United Methodist Church, rural Buckingham, with burial in the Geneseo Cemetery.

She died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of natural causes.

Memorials may be directed to the Geneseo United Methodist Church.

Loraine Vedetta Taylor was born Sept. 1, 1910, in Eagle Township, Black Hawk County, IA, the daughter of Raymond and Hazel (Brallier) Burrows. She attended rural schools and graduated from La Porte City High School in the Class of 1930. She then taught school at Eagle #9 for two years.

On June 30, 1932, she was united in marriage to Dewey Taylor at the home of her parents in La Porte City. The couple made their home farming in the Geneseo and Traer communities before moving to a farm they purchased near La Porte city in 1938. Loraine was a homemaker.

After Dewey's death March 14, 1984, she continued to make her home on the farm until 1990 when she moved to Waterloo.

She was a member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church and the Geneseo United Methodist Women for many years. In free moments she enjoyed being with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a daughter, Virginia Riggins; three brothers, Floyd and Leonard Burrows and Leland in infancy; one sister, Lois Primmer.

She is survived by four sons and their wives; Donald and Mary Taylor and Lyle and Marge Taylor, all of Waterloo; Merlin and Lois Taylor of Cedar Falls and Dee and Flora Taylor of La Porte City; one daughter, Karen Ulmanis of Waterloo; a son-in-law, Keith Riggins of Waterloo; three sisters, Vera McClung of Waterloo, Ruby Dodson of Escondido, CA and Darlene Mueller of Dewar, IA; three brothers, Burdell Burrows of Elk Run Heights, IA Cecil Burrows of La Porte City and Robert Burrows of White Springs, FL; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Overton Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangemnents.
